Game Vision Statement

Introduction: The game that I want to create is an endless runner game with the objective of getting as far as possible and getting more points. There would be obstacles in the way that the player would have to jump over or dodge. Hitting an obstacle would mean they lose. This game would be a challenging game with the player needing fast reflexes once it speeds up.

Target Market: The target market for this game would be people that are ready for a challenge and like to test out their arrow key reflexes. We want the users to enjoy a fast paced game where they keep coming back to get higher scores.

Game Genre: The game genre will be an endless runner where the player has to survive and get as far as he/she can to get more points.

Gameplay: The gameplay for the game will be all about dodging and jumping over obstacles as the player moves forward. The player will have a starting point where once the game is initiated, the character starts running forward. The player has no control over the characters forward movement, just it's side movement and jump. The terrain will be a 3-way street with obstacles such as cars and lorries in the way.

The cars can be dodged or jumped over since they are not that tall but the lorries are too tall so they have to be dodged. If you try to jump over a lorry you crash into it and the game ends. The street will also have some decorations like trees or flowers along the side.

As the player moves forward he/she will gather points the longer they travel forward. At the end there will be a page showing their score and highscore. They can gain additional points by collecting coins along the way. Each coin will be worth 10 points and can greatly help in getting a higher score.

Resources Required: There are a few resources that I'm going to need to make this game. I'll first need a character that moves forward by itself but can be controlled up and to the sides by the player. I will need to have a 3-way road that keeps generating as the player moves forward until the player dies. I will also need obstacles that get in the players way. A small car that the player can jump over and a taller lorry that the player can't jump over. They can also come in different colours and styles as long as the heights match.

The camera will have to follow the player as he moves around in third person. The terrain decoration also has to generate as the player moves forward. For music or sound I will probably need some traffic sounds with some light intense music to add to the players experience. I will also need to create a main menu where the player can start the game and also see stats like high score.

Link to resources: To create this game I have found some resources on YouTube. They are tutorials on how to create an endless runner game similar to Subway Surfers. The link to the first part of the turorial is found here. The tutorial covers a majority of the resources that I need to create this game

  2. Hi Fineas,

Your game idea is pretty interesting and I see there is a lot of potential to your game. We really haven't seen a fun endless runner game since the temple run games so for me it's pretty interesting to see someone take on that idea. I can see you have put some thought into the game and you already know what you want to do with your idea so this game is bound to turn out great. Have you considered to add power ups as a mechanic for the game? I think that would make the game a lot more interesting and keep the player more entertained the further they get into the game. What if you changed the environment once they got passed a certain distance to make the player feel a sense of progress as they're playing. Really excited to see how your game will turn out.

  3. Hi Fineas, really cool game idea I like how you laid out your statement with different sections per each consideration. I too am doing a runner and will be excited to see how our two games will differ each other gameplay wise. What if in your game you also had people as obstacles? Such as a walking elderly lady across the street as your terrain will be a 3 way street? Maybe you might also think about pedestrian obstacles as in people walking their dogs or even traffic police? I really like that you also have a points system and that it's not just about running until you can't anymore. It's good to see that you incorporated the fact that you have 2 end goals and not just one. I also haven't see a target market in many other posts to date so I think that's a good feature to help you gage the way you will design your game, whether you will make it more child friendly or more adult orientated.
